Film Festival Reflection

Today at school we went to the regent theatre to watch all of the film festival entries. I was in a group with Sammi and Caitlin, ours was played first and Madylen who was running it told one of the teachers at our school who told us that ours was the best because of the camera angles and the use of slo-mo. Some of the videos weren’t very interesting as the others because they didn’t have much humour like I thought they would. Some of the groups also needed to work on their camera quality and sound quality. Today was really fun but I wish they had prizes because of what Madylen said about ours.

Nene Janet Frame

Last term, Taiao was researching the people who are the names of our groups like, Sam Hunt, Keri Hulme, Barry Crump, Witi Ihimaera and of course my group Janet Frame. The people who I have just listed are all either authors or poets from New Zealand and are the names of our groups. The 4J's Run Reflection

Today was my last 2.6km run with Mr S.W. for the last two years we have been running non-stop every non-raining morning. This has been a huge part of our school for about four years now. At the start of last year, we were told by our teacher that we would be doing this until the cross country was finished but it didn't stop we were running hard out every morning.

 At the start of this year, we had two teachers one teacher Monday, Tuesday (Mr Mc'Auly) and then the other Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (Mr S.W). Originally it was Mr Mc'Auly on Monday and Friday and Mr S.W on the other days, so it was two different teachers both eager to run but telling us that we could do different things on the run, for instance, Mr Mc'Auly told us we could do half if we needed to and Mr S.W told us that we had to do the full way.

After cross country last year we got a day rest but this year Mr S.W chose hard over easy for us. We still couldn't do half or and we still had to do it unless we got a note, that's the only way to get out of it unless it's raining or the teacher can't do it. But we still went hard. Determination got us through the year and it helped us get through our sports training. The run was hard but it helped and that's why it will be missed at Paroa School.

Teachers On Strike

Previously Primary school teachers and Principals in New Zealand have gone on strike. The media have been saying that they are going on strike

just for money, but actually, they went on strike for the kids that they teach.

One of the other reasons was that not as many people are going to teaching

school, so schools are struggling to find teachers.

Chess Reflection

Yesterday I went to the Greymouth to play chess.
There were 4 categories for Rookies, Juniors, Intermediates and Seniors.
I was in the intermediate with the rest of the year seven and eights.
Our school came first in the Juniors and Intermediate yay!!!!!! I won 1 of my
games and lost three tied 2 of my games.

Back in the 1970’s people from the Pacific Islands and many other countries like

Australia and England were working in New Zealand they started family's, got new friends,

settled into the New Zealand lifestyle completely. But one day in 1974 everything

changed for them. They were raided in there own homes that they paid for, they looked after,

taken into police custody and flew back to there home countries. 40% of the people who came from other countries were Polynesian and Pacific Islanders, that 40% were targeted during the raids due to there skin colour because they were easier to identify than the others, they were even pulling up Maori people on the streets asking them to show their passports to prove there raise.

No More Mining On Conservation Land

No more mining on Conservation land that’s barbaric, most people’s jobs are in
mining and they’re stopping now when middle age people most likely won’t get a
job anywhere else on the West Coast,  due to most of the West Coast is Conservation
land or family businesses not looking for anyone new. If you can’t get a job anywhere else
on the West Coast where will you mine? The answer is moving, in other words, having the
West Coast population. The West Coast is small enough as it is let alone halving it. So think
twice about stopping mining on conservation land.

TRINKET!!!!!!

Using Basic Python Syntax and Java Script

Today I am learning to compare and contrast two programming languages. For Java Script we were using Code combat, we use code combat to work on our coding skills I got to level 6, we also screencastified our work.

Next we learned how to use Python Trinket. Python trinket is another coding game like java script, The colours stared off (in this order) green, blue then yellow. I also changed the way it was set it started off with the top circle going of the top and it saying Lets Party! But now it says Never Give Up!

Listening to my teacher talk to us about plastic in our bottled water we buy, I thought to myself, how much plastic is in our bodies?

Scientist tested 11 of the world's biggest water brands using a special dye and they found plastic in the bottled water and how much bottled water have you drunk? I know I’ve drunk lots in my lifetime.

The test were done at the State University of New York. The studies show that the main countries are (these are international so not many are New Zealand In fact I don’t think any are New Zealand) Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Lebanon, Mexico, Thailand and the United States.

What is my solution?

I think that a way to fix this problem is to reduce the amount we use. You don’t have to use plastic. For example clothes, some clothes have plastic in them and when they go through the dryer or washing machine some of the plastic comes out and then goes into the water. So instead of using plastic in clothes use cotton, wool or silk, all of those products are natural. Cotton is a plant, wool comes from sheep and silk is mainly from cocoons from silk worms. So as you can see those products are natural.

In the future I don’t think anyone wants to drink plastic, so what is a way to stop drinking it? Well I think my solution is pretty straight ford so why not try it, so let’s stop it before it’s too late!

Cave Stream Adventure Reflection

The Cave Stream Adventure Reflection 

Everything was a blur until we started going down the track to the cave. seeing the amazing scenery was breathtaking, I had always driven past cave stream and thought to myself I can't wait till I go there.

Hearing the briefing I thought to myself how cold will the water actually be just really cold or ice? It was ICE!!!! Stepping into the cave was a massive wake up call. When we went through the deepest part trying to get as high as possible so we could stay warmer for longer but it was no use we were just going to freeze our buts off the whole time. Our teacher had told us earlier that day the rocks we were touching were actually made out of bones, which was kind of cool but weird at the same time.

When we were near the end that was the only time I got scared because in the videos it looks like it's on an angle, and in the videos, people were on their stomachs so I thought I had to as well but I didn't, there was a gap in the roof so I just sat up the whole time.


What I personally loved about cave stream was the challenge it brought, climbing up those waterfalls adrenaline was rushing through me the whole time, it truly was amazing.

The referee can’t always make the best decision especially when there is no one to help them make that decision. Don’t yell at the ref they’re doing the best they can!

Refs can’t always get it right because if they could then they could see everything and that would just be creepy, but I am going to tell you an example as to why the refs can’t always be right. My class and I watched a video of the soccer world cup in the 1900, here's what happened. The goalie came charging at the german who was about to score the goal he shoots he misses but the goalie was still charging because he was in mid air just next to the german and he moved his shoulder and BOOM! The german was on the ground without three of his teeth and the referee said it was a goalie’s kick when the german was stretchered of the field and that was the final in the world cup. It wasn’t entirely the referees fault because he couldn’t see what actually happened, that’s why they needed TMO. (When you’re finished reading this search up referees best calls in the world)

I have had many experiences when the ref has made the wrong call like when I was playing netball and someone had a clear step and they said play on.  In hockey I was taking a free pass and someone took it of me and I hadn’t even touched the ball, again play on says the ref. I have had many experiences on when the ref made a bad call and those are only to but I don’t yell at the ref.

You always have to respect the referees because they can’t always make the right decision that’s why they need like TMO in like Super rugby and in big cricket games but you can’t have it in club stuff so they are doing the best they can. My brother referees basketball and is quite good at it but there are people yelling and shaking there head because he might have made a little mistake, it doesn’t matter it’s just a game.

In conclusion I think that you shouldn’t give the referees a hard time because they made a little mistake after all the refs can’t always be right!

Rotation writing

Boom, Clash, Bang the sound to my day. You may be wondering why that the sound to my day well right now I'm in War where we are flying spitfires and dodging bullets, I'm Wing Commander and I'm in charge but really wish I wasn't given this job anyway I  woke up in the amazing, colourful, wonderful Snaztopia! There was a barking green chicken yelling at me to get up. "Bork get out of bed, bork get out of bed, bork get out of bed, bork get out of bed you lazy slob " " Be quiet Mr Chicken" I yelled furiously at him, but instead of having breakfast like I usually do I ran outside still naked from sleeping in the shower and look over at the mountains and see bombs and planes, wait instead of being in Snaztopia like I wish I was I'm in London for the war. I need to get out of here before I get trapped by wreckedge
